Biohack helps industries to reduce their operational costs and environmental impacts by implementing circular economy principles and applying the best technologies available to transform waste into products.

BioHack was born at the AB-Inbev 2018 hackathon (Hack the World - Rio de Janeiro) and after winning the second place in the competion, we started working side-by-side with the biggest brewery in the world.

Greenhouse Gases Inventory (GHG Inventory)

Investors, customers and society are demanding more sustainable and cleaner processes which is a big challenge for many companies. Then, in order to mitigate or reduce your environmental impact, you have to be able to quantify it, including your greenhouse gases emissions. With our experience and expertise, we will help you to identify your emissions sources and the better strategy to quantify, monitor and report your emissions. We also guarantee the compliance with the ISO14064 standard, GRI and any other regulatory norm.

GHG Emissions Mitigation Plan

Once you know your emission sources, it is time to eliminate or reduce the GHG emissions by optimizing your process, investing on a new technology or even substituting raw materials or entire processes. To be able to elaborate a feasible and more adequate plan for your company, our engineers will study your company to identify the best strategy. BioHack follow the UNFCCC methodologies adapting them when needed and can work with you during the inplementation process to monitor the results.

Sustainability Diagnosis

Do you know the position of your company infront of your competitors? Are you sure you comply with all applicable environmental legislation for your business? We map and study your process, comparing with your industry and the best available technologies to offer you a complete diagnosis of your positioning relative to competitors and help you define or adjust your sustainability goals. In this diagnosis, which may be of the complete or only part of the company, we will include the feasibility assessment for replacement of other biofuels for the biocoal.

Biocoal

Our main product, the biocoal, is a renewable and clean fuel because it is derived from residual biomass and therefore the carbon dioxide emissions from its burning are of biogenic origin, they do not contribute to the increase of the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Biomass contains nitrogen in its composition and therefore, some nitrogen oxides can be generated in their combustion, such as nitrous oxide (N2O) and this is a greenhouse gas. However, when compared to fossil fuels, such as charcoal, the emission of GHG from biocoal is insignificant. In addition, we are transforming waste, which would be disposed of in landfills, into a product. Thus, we contribute to the recovery of waste, increase the life of landfills, reduce costs for generating companies and reduce environmental impacts related to waste disposal.

SDG (Sustainable Development Goals)

BioHack products and services contribute to the reach of the SDGs

By doing the waste treatment and transforming it into a product, we are reducing or eliminating the negative environmental impact of generation and disposal, thus contributing to achieving ODGs 11 and 12. The product generated is a solid fuel that will be used for the generation of clean and renewable energy, thus contributing to achieve ODGs 7 and 13. And to carry out the transfer of this cutting-edge technology, unprecedented in Brazil, it was necessary to articulate partnerships for sustainable research, development and innovation. Thus, BioHack also contributes directly to achieving ODGs 9 and 17.

BioHack also contributes to reach other objectives that are not directly related to our business, but for which we have an indirect impact through our values, customer and employee relationship policy and indirect impact of our products and services. By reducing adverse environmental impacts of industries and cities through the use of waste and promoting sustainability, we contribute to improving the quality of life of people, water quality and soil. And since we can not talk about sustainability without mentioning social and economic development, we also contribute, through our culture and promotion of research and development in partnership with universities, to the creation of decent work and economic development, gender equality, reduction inequality and quality education.
